L F S Burnham as Head of State
Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham served as the Head of State of the nation of Guyana from 1964 to his untimely demise in 1985.
His was a sterling, exemplary leadership, where he commanded the respect of world leaders such as Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Ronald Reagan, Fidel Castor and Pierre Trudeau.
Noted as an outstanding world leader fighting for the cause of poor, marginalized societies on the global stage; for his excellence of intellect; for his oratory skills; and for his breadth of vision for the Guyanese nation, Burnham encountered enormous odds in building a nation out of the ruins of colonial oppression.
He left a wealth in intellectual capital to his nation, and indeed to the world.
As his eldest daughter, I feel obligated to gather my father’s knowledge and vision into a cohesive order, and allow a global contribution to evolve from this enormous body of his work.
I grew up with him in a household always filled with noble ideas, philosophical insights and that intellectual’s quest for knowledge.
I offer the 21st century global village this wealth of leadership knowledge my father left behind.
The L F S Burnham Leadership Development Initiative aims to operate a college of leadership in Guyana and the Caribbean, and to administer a global online forum for political thought, sharing of ideas, and advocacy for the world’s poor and marginalized, as my father’s passion would suggest.
The L F S Burnham Leadership Development Institute is the global think-tank based on the work, life, contribution, ideas, knowledge and unique nation-building vision of Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham.
